Boris Palmer, born in 1972 in Waiblingen near Stuttgart, was elected Mayor of Tübingen in October 2006. From June 2001 until May 2007 he was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg (Landtag); from March 2006 until December 2006 he was deputy chairman of his faction (Alliance 90/The Greens).
Having studied mathematics and history at the University of Tübingen and in Sydney, Australia, environmental issues have always been the driving force in his political work. As a consequence he made climate protection the center of his policy. In 2008 he started the local climate protection campaign "Tübingen macht blau".
In October 2014 and in October 2022 Boris Palmer was reelected as Mayor of Tübingen. Now his main policital aim is to make Tübingen a climate neutral city by 2030 with regard to the energy-related CO2 emissions. During the Coronavirus pandemic, he argues for a distinct "Tübingen strategy", protecting the most vulnerable and avoiding general lockdowns.
Boris Palmer left the Greens in May 2023 and does not belong to any political party.
